Lexis Japan, Japanese school in Kobe
Lexis Japan teaches Japanese to adults on a single campus, in central Kobe. Here is who they are, how they teach, what sets them apart, and the campus we offer.
Who is Lexis Japan?
Lexis Japan is the Japanese branch of Lexis Education, a group founded in 2004 that trains students in Australia and Asia, with campuses in Australia, South Korea and Japan. In Japan, the group operates a training centre in the heart of Kobe, which welcomes students from more than 40 countries every year.
According to its official website, the five most represented nationalities among students are Germany, France, Taiwan, Switzerland and the United States. Lexis Japan also offers English and teacher training courses; here we present only its Japanese courses for adults.
How they teach
The intensive Japanese course works on conversation, writing, reading, listening and grammar, with an emphasis on the practical use of the language. Classes rely on a standard textbook, largely complemented by real-life documents, so that what is learned in class is immediately useful in daily life, at work and in further studies.
The group’s website states that the courses are designed for students coming from European languages, with qualified Japanese teachers and online resources integrated into the courses, usable during and after the stay. An online level test lets you find your level before enrolling.
What sets Lexis Japan apart
- A course designed for Europeans. The programme is built for students whose mother tongue is European, with a sustained pace and material taken from real life.
- A campus in central Kobe. The campus is on the 9th floor of a building in the Sannomiya district, in the lively cultural district of the city; the group’s website presents Kobe as “the most pleasant city to live in in Japan”.
- Accommodation organised by the school. Lexis Japan works with several student residences around Kobe (from the simple student house to the residence with meals), offers independent apartments and host families (breakfast and dinner included), and its team takes care of the bookings.
Its programme, and for whom
In our catalogue, the course is open to adults from age 16: intensive Japanese, full-time (20 hours per week) or part-time, mornings only (15 hours per week). Starts take place every Monday, for a duration of 1 to 48 weeks, from beginner to advanced level.
The group’s website presents other options, which are not part of our adult catalogue: a summer programme for teenagers, private lessons, JLPT preparation, and online courses.
