I’ve had an amazing experience at BROWNS English Language School. The teachers are friendly, patient, and always encourage students to do their best. The classes are engaging, interactive, and easy to follow, which has helped me become much more confident in speaking English. I’ve also met wonderful friends from many different countries, making my time here even more enjoyable. The staff are always helpful and supportive whenever I have questions. I studied at this school for 10 weeks, around 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday, and it was an amazing experience. Its central location in Melbourne makes it easy to enjoy the city after class, and the school itself organizes 2–3 weekly activities—from movie afternoons with popcorn, painting and cooking classes, ping-pong tournaments, cultural events, and monthly barbecues (or “Barbies” as they're called here), to celebrating special days like International Women’s Day and Australia Day.

Classes run from 8:40 a.m. to 1:10 p.m., and there's also an optional “Accelerate” class from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., which I highly recommend. It's a self-directed session with a support teacher, helpful for all levels, where you work on grammar and vocabulary aligned with your weekly goals. You track your progress using a "passport" given on day one, where teachers also leave personalized feedback after each Monday's assessment. On Wednesdays, there’s a Job Club, and on Thursdays, a Conversation Club to meet students from different classes and levels.

On the first day, you take a placement test (written and spoken) to determine your level. I was placed at B1 for grammar and B2 for speaking, and after 5 weeks, I felt ready to move up—an option the school supports with proper materials and guidance.

They also give you a student card for discounts (some museums are even free!) and a mini tour of the area, including useful spots like food courts, the hospital, and the city library (where I also got a membership card).

For materials, we used the English File books—one unit per week, meaning you can advance a level in 10 weeks. Teachers also bring additional materials, games, and interactive tools like Kahoots to make classes dynamic and engaging. All my teachers were kind, respectful, and fun, often sharing cultural insights and differences between British, American, and Australian English.

Beyond the General English course, the school also offers IELTS prep. I was curious, and they allowed me to try a class before deciding. Though I chose to stick with General English, I appreciated their flexibility and openness.

Having not studied English in a classroom for years, and never in such an immersive, full-time way abroad, I was initially nervous—but the whole team (teachers, admin, and front desk) made it a truly welcoming experience. I also met incredible classmates from all over the world, with different cultures and stories, all united by a shared goal: to improve our English and enjoy life in Australia.

As someone who has taught Spanish as a foreign language, I truly value the effort it takes to create such a positive learning environment. I'm deeply thankful for this experience. The 10 weeks flew by, and it was tough to say goodbye. I hope to return one day and cross paths again with this wonderful school and people. I had a great experience at Browns English Language School . I really enjoyed my time there, and it wasn’t just about studying — I could clearly see an improvement in my English in a short period. The teachers are supportive, friendly, and make learning comfortable and engaging.

What makes this place special is the variety of activities, both inside and outside the institute. They are fun and help break the routine, while giving us a chance to practice English in real-life situations.

I loved my time at Browns. The People working there were all so amazing and just loving. You could come to them with anything and they tried their best helping you. I was also possible to change my course to something that is a bit more challenging which all went very easy.
