Miami is a city on the Atlantic coast of the United States, located in the south-east of the state of Florida. It is surrounded by the Everglades national park to the west and the Biscayne national park to the west. It brings together several islands, some of them artificial, among them those of Miami and South Beach. The Miami region enjoys a tropical climate divided into two seasons: the humid, very hot season, which corresponds to summer, and the dry season with mild temperatures, corresponding to winter. The annual amount of sunshine there is also high, with about 3150 hours a year.

Miami, one of the most multicultural cities in the United States has a particularly rich historical heritage. It was the Indians who named the city Miami with this name meaning "fresh water". In the 16th century, Juan Ponce de León, a Spanish conquistador, was the first to discover the city and its bay, then inhabited by the Tequesta Native Americans. But it was not until 1800 that the city was colonised by Europeans. In the 19th century, Julia Tuttle, known as "the mother of Miami", worked hard for the development of the city, which then became the county seat. Miami reached its peak during the years after the First World War. After going through several episodes of natural disasters, waves of immigration, economic crises and racial tensions, Miami is today once again a booming city.
