This programme focuses on teaching students in the field of Business Communication. By adopting a skills- and results-based approach, students will gain skills and experience through individual and team instruction. Drawing on Canadian best practice in sales and marketing, students will learn to use various forms of communication to meet a range of business and sales requirements effectively. Co-op students will then apply this learning to their work placement while gaining work experience.

Objectives

By the end of this diploma, students will successfully be able to:

• Clearly understand the terms, theories and organisational structures specific to the Canadian business context.

• Use basic mathematical skills for everyday business calculations.

• Write and deliver a presentation effectively.

• Write various types of correspondence and become familiar with the different forms of business communication.

• Develop their own leadership styles and techniques.

• Demonstrate outstanding customer service in sales relationships in person, online or by telephone.

• Successfully apply these skills in a real working environment.

Co-op Work Experience (optional)

The paid part of the Co-op Work Experience is a crucial aspect of this programme. This is where students apply the theoretical concepts learned in class in the real world. It is designed to give students experience in a Canadian working environment that complements the learning objectives of their course.

Throughout the academic and co-op components of this programme, students will have the support of our Co-op Coordinator, who will work with them to find a suitable work opportunity and help them succeed in the co-op part of the programme. At the end of their work experience, students must return to VGC and complete the two-week Capstone part of this programme before receiving their diploma.
