Geography
San José is the capital of Costa Rica, a country in Central America, in the country's central valley, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes such as the Poás Volcano and the Irazú Volcano. The city is the country's main political, economic and cultural centre. Its climate is tropical, with a rainy season from May to November and a dry season from December to April. San José stands at a relatively high altitude, which moderates the heat and gives it a more temperate climate than other regions of the country. The city is also known for its many parks, museums and its colonial architecture.
