Korean courses in Busan
with Lexis

I went to Lexis twice and here are my thoughts:

TLDR: Good for the Korean class, arrange the rest yourself ;)

Pros:
- the quality of teachers is excellent, I was in the Pre-Intermediate level and really happy with the teacher.
- Everything is taught in Korean which is hard but also really opens up the possibility to 'fully immerse' yourself in the language (students are encouraged to speak Korean in class, that of course depends on your level but many will be happy to try).
- I liked that there was a huge emphasis on speaking. After all, we would want to speak to people in Korean, rather than write long essays ;)
- The pace was fast but you really got a lot of bang for your bucks in that regard ;)
- I liked that you had a focus on grammar (with talking and new vocab in the morning) and the afternoon class for 'survival Korean'. It would be nice if you could book the latter independently.
- In my level we had no homework which unappreciated as you needed time to review anyway and also honestly need to let everything settle as it can be quite overwhelming.

Cons:
- Personally I have mixed feelings about the accomodation service. I stayed with 2 host families and compared to home stays in other countries I've done the host families here didn't interact much with the guest. At my last home stay I even ate by myself most days and my hosts were not present to be chatted with. Also my meals seemed to be barely enough to fill me up, I would strongly advise against the dinners as you can eat better (and for the same price) outside. The point of a host family for me was the cultural exchange and shared meals with conversations. Without that I find the cost for this arrangement too high. You can find small apartments or very cheap hostels. Also you don't know anything about the host family other than their age and receive one picture of the room and some of the apartment. The families are often far away (which you're made aware of before) but it does add up having to commute 45min one way. So next time I would not choose the accomodation service (also the placement fee is very high, better do research yourself!).

- The classrooms are tiny. It works out but really you can barely squeeze behind a person sitting or worse, everyone has to get up. Nothing to do about it but just as a heads-up.

- The onboarding seems a bit too long. You're watching a 20min video with points that are given to you in a hand out. Then you do a quick interview which is fine. What I didn't like was that they try to force you to write a review about your feelings on day 1 before you even had a class. That's really not reflective of what your experience will actually be. Please stop doing that.

It’s really peaceful place. Location is really good and easy to find. If u find a school where do u want to study your Korean language, totally recommend!!

I spent a lovely week learning Korean at Lexis, Busan! People were welcoming and friendly and I learnt a lot in just a few days. I wish I could have stayed longer!

The teachers are all nice and funny. The pacing is a bit fast, but still understandable! Like it a lot!
