St. Julian's is a mainly seaside and tourist town on the Mediterranean coast in the north-west of Malta, 10km north of Valletta and very close to Manoel Island. Its climate is Mediterranean, damp and mild in winter with a few showers, hot and dry in summer with sea temperatures that can exceed 20° and abundant sunshine.
Until the beginning of the 20th century, St. Julian's was a quiet fishing village. In 1950, with the growth of tourism, the town was transformed into a large seaside resort, a favourite destination for tourists from the four corners of the world with its high-rise buildings, its shopping centres, its golden sandy beaches and its green cliffs. The inhabitants of St. Julian's generally speak English and Maltese, because of the British colonisation of the island between 1816 and 1974 (the date of Maltese Independence and of the official establishment of its own government).
Between 2 English lessons, meet up with the warm and welcoming young people of Malta over a drink in the trendy Paceville district. In the evening, you can do the rounds of the city's many fashionable clubs or try your luck (in moderation!) at the majestic and imposing Casino of St. Julian's, at the end of St George's Bay. Finally, being close to Valletta, the capital of Malta, will give you every service you might miss, as well as cruises to the islets of Malta or out to sea and as far as Greece or Sicily.
The cost of living there is reasonable, comparable to Paris and slightly lower than Geneva: allow about €60 for a meal for 2 in a mid-range restaurant and €55 for a pair of classic Nike trainers or equivalent.
