The Expanish school in Barcelona

Expanish, Spanish schools in Spain and Argentina

Expanish has taught Spanish to foreigners since 2006, in Buenos Aires then in Spain. Here is who they are, how they teach, what sets them apart, and the four centres we offer.

Who is Expanish?

Expanish is a Spanish school born in Buenos Aires in 2006, founded by Agustín Vignale and Alejandro Rched. It then opened its centres in Barcelona (2017), Madrid (2021) and Málaga (2023), according to the story the group tells on its official website.

The group describes “academically rigorous” programmes that combine language, cultural immersion and experiential learning, taught by experienced international teachers based on site.

We offer four of its centres: Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Madrid and Málaga.

How they teach

The core course is intensive group Spanish: 20 lessons of 50 minutes per week, with a possible start every Monday. Two options extend it: Intensive Explore (24 lessons, including 4 “Spanish in the City” sessions in Barcelona) and Intensive Plus (30 lessons, including 6 conversation sessions in Barcelona).

Classes remain small: about 7 students per group in Madrid and Málaga, up to 12 in Barcelona (the centre page also gives an average of 7), 12 on average and 16 at most in Buenos Aires.

To go faster or aim at a specific goal, combined courses add 4 or 10 private lessons to the 20 group lessons, private lessons can be taken on their own (10 or 20 per week), and DELE and SIELE exam preparation is done in 10 private lessons per week.

What sets Expanish apart

  • An activities programme reserved for students. Each centre offers activities every week (Tardeo Expanish, visits, cooking or craft workshops, local dance classes). Some, called premium, are paid and open after two months of enrolment.
  • Accreditations on display. Barcelona is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes; Madrid and Buenos Aires are IALC members; Barcelona, Madrid and Málaga are SIELE exam centres. The group’s website also displays the acronyms CSN and Bildungsurlaub without detailing their content.
  • An opening onto Latin America. Buenos Aires also offers a “Spanish & Tango” course (20 group lessons and 2 tango lessons per week).

Its programmes, and who they are for

The group addresses very varied audiences: summer stays for juniors, young adults, adults aged 18 to 29, 30 to 49 and over 50, long-term courses, online courses, DELE and SIELE preparation, and study semesters for American students.

In our catalogue, Spanish courses for adults can be booked from age 18. Depending on the centre, “30+” intensive courses (Barcelona) and a “50+ Spanish & Culture” programme (1 to 2 weeks, 20 lessons per week; Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga) complete the offer. Junior stays are not part of this page.
