The Españolé Spanish school in Valencia

Españolé, Spanish school in Valencia

Españolé teaches Spanish in Valencia, in a former Gothic palace in the El Carmen district, in the heart of the city. Here is who they are, how they teach, what sets them apart, and the centre we offer.

Who is Españolé?

Españolé is a Spanish-as-a-foreign-language school based in Valencia, Spain. It is affiliated to International House, a network of language teaching centres founded in 1953, whose schools are subject to quality requirements and inspected regularly; its website also presents it as a centre accredited by the Instituto Cervantes for the DELE and SIELE exams.

The school occupies a late 13th-century Gothic palace, fully restored, which houses remains of the city’s former Arab wall (11th century). The website announces about 180 students in winter, 250 in spring and autumn, and 350 in summer.

We offer its adult centre: Valencia. According to its website, the school also has summer programmes for teenagers, which are not covered on this page.

How they teach

All courses are taught entirely in Spanish, with a communicative and very practical method: the aim is for the student to be able to cope in everyday situations. Courses work on reading, writing, comprehension and speaking, through tasks and projects.

Groups have at most 10 students (6 on average according to the website) and are organised by level, from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2). Courses take place Monday to Friday, in the morning or afternoon, with four lessons a day for Intensive 20; starts are every Monday, except for true beginners, who have dates set by the school.

In our catalogue, the Intensive course exists in five options: Intensive 20, Intensive 25, Intensive 30, Intensive plus and Super intensive, with lessons of 50 minutes.

What sets Españolé apart

  • A school in a Gothic palace. Classes sit alongside fragments of the 11th-century Arab wall, arches and a polychrome coffered ceiling more than seven centuries old, in the El Carmen district, next to Valencia’s old university.
  • Affiliation to International House. The school highlights this network, which also makes it possible to start a programme in Valencia and continue it in another city in Spain.
  • An activities programme. City tour, beach picnic, museum visits, dance classes, tapas route, dinner among students and cooking classes in the room reserved for that purpose.
  • Preparation for official exams. The school prepares for the DELE and the SIELE of the Instituto Cervantes; it announces a 98% pass rate among students who followed its preparations.

Its programmes, and who they are for

For adults, the website offers in particular: intensive courses, DELE and SIELE preparation, private lessons, Spanish and cooking, family courses, Spanish with pilot training, group courses, teacher training and a pathway to university, as well as “work and study” options (internships, au pair, volunteering).

In our catalogue, seven courses can be booked in Valencia, from age 16: the five Intensive options, DELE preparation (20 lessons per week) and SIELE preparation (25 lessons per week). The DELE preparation courses follow the exam calendar, according to the website; the intensive courses require no prior level of Spanish.
