DID, German schools in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich
DID teaches only German, for more than fifty years, in four major German cities. Here is who they are, how they teach, what sets them apart, and the four centres we offer.
Who is DID?
DID — did deutsch-institut, “deutsch in Deutschland” — is a language institute devoted exclusively to German as a foreign language. On its official website, it dates its foundation to 1970 and defends a simple idea: German is learned most easily and quickly in the country where it is spoken.
It welcomes adults, teenagers and children from all over the world. For adults, DID offers courses all year round in four cities — Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich — and that is what we present here; youth stays take place at other locations of the group and are not covered on this page.
We offer its four adult centres: Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.
How they teach
Group courses work on the four skills — reading, writing, listening, speaking — with a method centred on the practical use of the language in daily life, studies and work, relying on course materials to consolidate grammar and vocabulary.
Three paces to choose from for group courses: 20 lessons per week (standard), 24 (intensive) or 28 (premium), lessons of 45 minutes, from level A1 to level C2. Classes bring together about 10 to 15 students. A course starts every Monday of the year, and a level test is taken at the start of the course to place everyone in the right class.
For a specific need, DID also offers private lessons: à la carte alongside a group course, or “Business German” in one-to-one courses (20 lessons per week, 25 with five extra lessons), whose content is adapted to the student’s profession.
What sets DID apart
- One language, since 1970. DID teaches only German: its courses, its exams and its support of foreign students all revolve around this single language.
- A consistent offer from one centre to the next. The group highlights uniform course prices so that you can change city during your stay; in our price engine, the standard course costs the same price per week in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.
- Exams taken on site. The four centres are licensed exam centres for TestDaF and the telc exams (B1, B2, C1 Hochschule); DID also prepares for the Goethe B2 and C1 certificates.
- A service for studying in Germany. The “University Pathway” service helps find a university, checks application documents and supports the visa application.
Its programmes, and who they are for
For adults: General German (standard, intensive or premium), preparation for studies in Germany, exam preparation (TestDaF, telc, Goethe), professional German in one-to-one courses and online courses. All levels are open, from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2), except “Business German”, which starts at A2.
In our catalogue, courses can be booked from age 18: General German (20, 24 or 28 lessons), “Business German” in private lessons and TestDaF preparation. Flexible-entry courses start every Monday; TestDaF preparation is a four-week fixed-date course (levels B2 to C2).
