Anglo Continental, English school in Bournemouth
Anglo Continental has taught English in Bournemouth since 1950, on a large campus close to the beach. Here is who they are, how they teach, what sets them apart, and the centre we offer.
Who is Anglo Continental?
Anglo Continental is a school of English as a foreign language founded in 1950 in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England. Its official website announces more than 75 years of experience and more than 400,000 students from 120 countries welcomed since its creation.
The school is accredited by the British Council and is a member of English UK. It is also an official computer-based IELTS centre and an authorised centre for the OET, the English exam for healthcare professionals.
Its website presents other programmes (professional English, aviation, teacher training): they are not priced in our catalogue and therefore do not appear on this page. We offer its single centre: Bournemouth.
How they teach
You study in an international atmosphere, with people of a similar level. A team of two or three teachers supervises each group, encourages participation and exchange, and English is the only language used in class.
General English courses are aimed at all levels, from complete beginner to advanced. They alternate presentation and practice of new language, development of speaking (fluency, accuracy, conversation) and sustained work on listening and reading comprehension, with homework, guided study and regular progress tests. Fees are reduced for long stays.
With the 30-lessons-per-week option, the “English for Success” programme adds targeted work on speaking (speaking and understanding) and writing (reading and writing). Outside lessons, the multimedia learning centre remains open to students.
All teachers hold a recognised English-teaching qualification (Cambridge CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL or equivalent) and most a university degree; many also have a DELTA or British Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
What sets Anglo Continental apart
- One of the largest language school campuses in England. According to its official website, the school has classrooms with interactive whiteboards, a 16-seat language laboratory, two conference rooms equipped with projection and a Student Centre with a terrace and award-winning gardens.
- Catering rated 5 for food hygiene. The school states that its on-campus catering holds the 5 rating (“very good”) in the British food hygiene rating scheme.
- Exams taken on site. The school is an official IELTS centre (computer-based, approved by the British Council) and an OET centre.
- A social programme at no extra charge. Students from age 16 take part free of charge in the social programme: English conversation club, football club, walking tour of Bournemouth, beach games. Excursions (from £20) and sports activities (from £5) are optional.
- A seaside town less than two hours from London. Bournemouth is a lively university town, about an hour and a half from London, with 12 kilometres of sandy beaches; its beach was ranked 12th in the world by the TripAdvisor community in 2025.
