Accademia Italiana, Italian school in Salerno, Italy
Accademia Italiana has taught Italian in Salerno, Campania, since 1997, in small classes and a stone’s throw from the Amalfi Coast. Here is who they are, how they teach, what sets them apart, and the centre we offer.
Who is Accademia Italiana?
Accademia Italiana is an Italian language and culture centre created in 1997 in Salerno, Campania. On its official website, it describes itself as one of the most accredited institutions in Italy for teaching Italian as a second or foreign language, and says it welcomes thousands of students from around the world every year.
The group has two schools: Salerno, open since 1997, and Naples, since 2023, plus a programme in Rome. We offer the Salerno centre here, the only one in our catalogue; it occupies two seafront palaces at 39 via Roma.
How they teach
All courses develop practical communication: grammar, vocabulary and conversation, in structured and varied lessons, complemented by a programme of social and cultural activities to speak Italian with other students and teachers.
Classes have 4 to 10 students (8 on average in our catalogue). They are formed according to starting level and by mixing nationalities, so that Italian remains the common language. A written and oral test is taken on the first day at 8:30 a.m. by students who are not beginners; teachers then track progress through a weekly test and homework.
Six levels, from level 1 (beginner, A1) to level 6 (advanced, C1). At the end of each course, a certificate states the duration and the level reached; at the end of the sixth level, the school awards an Accademia Italiana diploma. The courses are recognised by the Universities for Foreigners of Siena and Perugia.
What sets Accademia Italiana apart
- Official exams on site. The school is an exam centre recognised by the University for Foreigners of Siena (CILS, DITALS) and by that of Perugia (CELI, CIC, DILS).
- Recognised teacher training. It is approved by the Italian Ministry of Education as an accredited training centre for teachers, and offers courses for teachers of Italian (DITALS preparation, Erasmus+).
- Professional networks. Accademia Italiana is a member of the IALC (International Association of Language Centres) and of ASILS (association of schools of Italian as a second language).
- A little-touristed setting on the Amalfi Coast. Salerno offers the historic centre, the sea and excursions to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Pompeii, Paestum and Capri.
