The Language Academy

I attended TLA for two weeks as part of my German "Bildungsurlaub" (educational leave). I enrolled in the Business English/General English course and was surprised that the second week was almost entirely focused on Halloween activities such as pumpkin carving and a costume contest — not quite what I expected from a business English program. These activities took up a significant portion of class time that I would have preferred to spend on learning new vocabulary or grammar (history of Halloween would have been fine, but not 2 hours of costume contest and prizes).

Our teacher, Shelby, did an excellent job and made the most of the two weeks.
The school is conveniently located in downtown. The air conditioning didn’t work during the first week, and while the overall organization was good, we had to wait an extra half hour on the last day because our certificates hadn’t been prepared.

Had an amazing three-month experience at The Language Academy! As a university professor from Brazil, I came to Fort Lauderdale to improve my English, and this school exceeded all my expectations. The teachers are incredible, the staff is very supportive, and the communication is always clear and welcoming.
I loved the flexibility—there’s no fixed start date—and the school offers several types of courses for different needs. The infrastructure is excellent as well. I learned so much in such a short time and definitely plan to come back. Highly recommended!

Very good, modern and furnited school with fantastic and motivated teachers who prove to teach whatever what everyone will want to study here. Very useful and welcome was interactive education on every class which helped me to progress much more in the further study of the English language. Really "BIG" thanks belongs to all friendly administration staff for handy and very helpful advices and informations too. Decidedly I can highly recommend this The Language Academy in Fort Lauderdale for its professional and kind access and many many pleasant experiences and atmosphere during the study as well :).

The Language Academy elevated my English to another level and because of that, doors to the job market in the United States opened for me. They stand out for their excellent teaching methods and highly qualified teachers. I highly recommend this school!

I've booked a two-week Business English/General English course through "helfen & lernen" and attended the course at TLA. My overall rating is mixed: the teacher quality was superb, but the planned curriculum was significantly undermined by the timing.

After taking a 100-question placement test on a tablet, we were assigned to the appropriate class. The first week's lessons were well-structured, involving work in a workbook (e.g., grammar) and more creative exercises (e.g., writing stories). Our teacher, Shelby, was truly excellent — always nice, patient, and incredibly helpful. She is a real asset to the school.
Unfortunately, our second week coincided exactly with Halloween week. The school pivoted almost entirely to this seasonal theme. We learned specific Halloween vocabulary, built a Halloween creature from recycled materials, and had to carve a pumpkin. The final day involved presentations and a costume competition.
This Halloween programming took up nearly half of our second week and felt like wasted learning time and wasted money.
Thankfully, Shelby quickly realized our class was not interested in the crafting and used every possible minute outside of the mandatory activities for actual English lessons.

One other negative point was the infrastructure: the air conditioning in our classroom didn't work half the time, making it extremely hot.

For information about parking: you can easily park your car at the Governmental parking garage - 5 min to walk to the school and it costs 2$ for the first hour and 1$ for every additional hour.

If it hadn't been Halloween week, I would have rated 4 stars. With working AC, it would have been 5 stars.
